I'm Wendy, the artist behind Handmade by W. I design and handmake jewellery in 925 sterling silver from my studio in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Every piece starts as an idea and ends in my hands. No factory. No moulds. No repeats.

Where it started

My late mother loved natural stones. She taught me that no two are the same — each has its own colour, its own flaws, its own story. I never forgot that. It's still how I look at every stone I set, and every piece I make.

An eye trained in space

I spent over eleven years in interior architecture and design. That work taught me to see line, proportion, light and shadow — how a shape makes you feel before you can explain why. I still design that way. The curve of a cuff is a decision, just like the curve of a staircase.

Why I picked up the torch

I started making jewellery while studying design, teaching myself from books and a lot of trial and error. In 2018, I launched Handmade by W. A few years in, I wanted full control, from the first cut to the final polish. So I learned silversmithing.

Now I work from flat sheets of sterling silver, and sometimes gold. I saw, file, bend, solder, oxidise and finish every piece by hand. Some days it works. Some days I melt it down and start again. That's part of the work.

How I work

It starts with something I notice — a shadow on a wall, a crack in stone, the way fabric folds

I shape it until the forms feels right

I build it in silver, by hand, one piece at a time

I make it once. When it's gone, it's gone

Who it's for

My work isn't for everyone, and that's on purpose. It's for people who don't dress to blend in. People who wear a piece because it means something — a win, a loss, a new start — not because it's in season. If you've ever been stopped and asked "where did you get that?", you'll understand.
